If you are a regular follower of our blog here at Responsive Inbound Marketing, then you might have seen our post yesterday about why company blogs are so important. Maybe you put everything else aside right then and there and created a blog for your company. If so, let us know! That would make our day! If not, does your hesitation stem from a fear of not knowing what to write or having a lot on your plate?

We get it, creating content is hard, it involves creativity, writing, proofreading, creating "extras" like offers to attach to your blog posts, time, and more! And then there's the biggest fear of all... "What do I write about?" I am here today to try to help assuage that anxiety and provide some tips for marketers to finding the perfect blog topic.

The First Step: All marketers know how important target customers are, but sometimes we forget when it comes to the nitty gritty details of our jobs. If you are having trouble thinking of blog topics your first step should be to write down your target audience. Keep in mind, this might not be your target customer, but your target reader. Are you selling video games that Mom's usually buy for their sons? Maybe you want a blog that appeals to the sons. Who do you want to read your blog post? Write to those people. Use keywords that appeal to those people. Find a topic that those readers will Google looking for answers to a problem.

The Problem: Your goal as a blogger is to be a problem solver. That can mean anything from answering a burning question your readers have to keeping them entertained in the five minutes they were trying to kill waiting for a friend. Write something that your target audience would want or need to read. Not only will this help guide the perfect visitors to your blog when they Google a question you are addressing, but it will also establish trust in your company as a thought leader and valuable resource.

What Now? You have had a blog for a while and have addressed a lot of needs. You are their go-to problem solver. But now you're stuck for a topic. If you have an interactive readership, ask them! See what they want you to teach them. If not, you know your customers better than anyone, think of the keywords they might use looking for your services, and craft a blog post around the most important search engine keyword that you have not yet used. Using those keywords will bring that target traffic to your blog and eventually your site and create a mutually beneficial relationship for you and your customers.

So go out there and start blogging! Your potential readers need you to solve their problems, stand out among those vying for their attention! And check out yesterday's post answering the question "Why blog?" to get some additional motivation and a free Ebook with additional business blogging tips.
