Most people know that LinkedIn is an invaluable marketing and networking resource. One of the great things about it is that it combines social media with good old fashion networking. If you are a business or brand, be sure that you are making the most of the opportunities that this site has to offer. Start 2016 off right with these great eight tips!Optimize_Your_SaaS_LinkedIn_Company_Page.jpg

  1. Look the part. First things first, be sure that your LinkedIn company pages look professional. Especially if you are a small business or start-up, you want to look like a reputable and reliable brand. Create and edit your LinkedIn page just as you would a professional webpage with clear language and a legitimate logo. Want more hard truths about LinkedIn? Get them here.

  2. Reliable content. Don’t post sales-y or jargon-laden info on your page. Readers want valuable content and links to appropriate, related information. According to a 2012 LinkedIn survey, company updates containing links have a 45 percent higher follower engagement rate than those without links. Make sure you are not driving followers away with spam. The goal is to build your network, turning people off with unwanted content is not the way to gain trust or contacts.

  3. Establish a contact. Make sure you have a social media “champion” (this may be you) to keep track of your content and posts. This is important for your company page as well as other social media sites. You want your SM to be clear, organized and relevant, not redundant and inconsistent.

  4. Stay on track. Point person? Check. Editorial calendar? Must have! Having a go-to person is great, but you also need a calendar or communication plan in place to know what content must be created and when it is posted. Highlight your top themes/trends/campaigns for the year and divide up your LinkedIn content appropriately amongst them.

  5. Get followers. Mentioned above, your goal is to build your network and get more followers. Encourage this by adding a “follow” button to your LinkedIn home page, participating in groups (LinkedIn has a group for virtually every industry and profession), and creating valuable discussions. Remember, the better info you create, the more shares and likes you will generate.

  6. Get targeted. Yes, you want more readers, but you also want quality followers and a high-yield network. Consider your (desired) audience and what information they need. Updates can be sent to all followers or a specific targeted audience based on job role, industry, location, etc. When creating your content calendar don’t forget who you are speaking to.

  7. Follow the leader. In order to be an industry leader, look to the best for inspiration. Find the LinkedIn company page of businesses you admire and see what they do/don’t do well. You don’t want to copy them, but you certainly can get some great ideas for how to improve your own online presence.

  8. More than words. Make sure your LinkedIn page is taking advantage of the latest tech options—you can post so much more than just words! Create a video, link to your YouTube page, use images and animation. It’s no secret that video marketing is hot, so capture attention visually.
