Touchdown For Tesla

After much anticipation, Tesla has finally unveiled its latest design for the new Model 3 car, which 115,000 people have already blindly pre-ordered. Lucky for them, it’s getting great reviews from industry experts and consumers alike. The starting cost will be $35,000 and it will go on the market in 2017. Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla, proudly claims that the car can go 0 to 60 in 6 seconds even with its extra storage spaces. The touchscreen will be the only distraction on the dashboard and the overhead window will stretch the length of the roof. The excitement that Musk has for this new design is very inspiring to say the least. He’s beaming like he’s giving his daughter away at his wedding. The headlines are calling this his ‘dream car’, but he’s saying that it’s a starting point and he wants to continue to improve it for future models. It’s a shame we have to wait so long until we get to see them on the road, but it seems like it will be worth the wait.

Kickin' It To The Man

Influential players of the US Women’s National Soccer Team are taking a stand against unequal pay. Carli Lloyd, Alex Morgan, Hope Solo, Megan Rapinoe and Becky Sauerbrunn all filed a lawsuit claiming that they earn up to half and sometimes only a quarter of what their male counterparts earn. This is technically illegal, but has been a problem in women’s soccer for many years. The biggest argument has always been that women don’t draw the crowd that men’s soccer draws, but as reigning world cup champs and Olympic champions, the women of the USWNT beg to differ. It’s even been noted that in 2015 they brought in a whopping $20 million more than the men’s team. So what’s the US Soccer Federation have to say for themselves? Well, they claim that they do a lot for the women’s team, but don’t see them as a huge money making investment. They claim they are open for negotiations, but it seems like that might be a ploy to stop the lawsuit.

Lake Pluto

A new picture obtained by NASA this week shows evidence of a frozen lake and other running water remnants on our favorite hunk of rock, Pluto. But there are frozen lakes all over Earth, what makes one on Pluto so special? Well, with this new information scientists have gained insight into what the baby planet used to be like. As of right now, it’s locked in an eternal winter that Elsa can’t even break free from, but these findings tell us that there was a time when that water was thawed. Therefore something caused a giant change in the planet’s atmosphere. Scientists predict that it’s due to an aggressive season change, but aren’t 100% sure. Either way, finding water on another planet tends to point towards life so who knows, maybe under that icy exterior are some fun loving alien fish who are just telling each other to keep swimming.

Mississippi And Misterssippi Walk Into The Senate

No, this is not an April fools joke. The Mississippi senate passed their Religious Freedom Bill on Wednesday and I know the name makes it sound positive, but it actually takes a lot of rights away. It states that businesses, social workers, and government employees can’t be punished for denying services based on their religious beliefs. This has caused a major uproar in the LGBT community because businesses can now fire employees for partaking in gay marriage, the state government can block adoption to gay couples, and people can refuse to marry individuals of the same sex. The vote was passed 31-17 and will arrive on the governor’s desk next week. Those in favor of it say that they are trying to protect people’s rights to the first amendment, while those apposed are embarrassed for their home state. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next week, but if it is put into law, this could set an example for other states that are looking to do the same.

Putin Love Into The World

Sorry ladies but your dreams of becoming the next Mrs. Putin will have to be put on hold because he has a new lady! It is now being reported that Rupert Murdoch’s ex-wife #3 is romancing the Russian leader. Wendi Deng has been seen hanging out with friends of Putin on a $35 million yacht. Though they haven’t stepped out in public together, an insider claims that the relationship is serious. Maybe this will bring the US and Russia closer together. Remember when Russia randomly decided to listen to the US and remove itself from Syria? I think it’s safe to say that Deng could have had some influence there. Let this be a lesson to everyone, just because you are perceived by the world to be a cold-hearted militaristic ruler doesn’t mean you aren’t searching for love just like everybody else.

Well that is the dish for this week! I hope you have a great rest of your day and try not to get into too much trouble with the pranks you pull. Meet us back here next Friday for another weekly roundup.
