If a post is published on a blog but no one is around to read it, does it make a sound? Out of all the components of creating a great blog, building an audience is without a doubt at the top of the list. No matter how captivating or revolutionary your posts are, they won’t matter much if nobody sees them. In order to really make blogging work for you, you need to draw readers in to read your blog. So, to help you prevent the feeling of shouting into the void, we’ve compiled a list of 6 tips to help you build your blog's audience:

1. Create Compelling Content
This tip isn’t surprising. What you write has to be great if you want people to read it. A blog can help you embark on becoming a trusted thought leader, as long as your content is worth reading. But, don’t forget that while you want to showcase your knowledge and expertise, you also want blogs that won't bore your audience and cause them to give up on your posts.

2. Strut Your Stuff
Another well-known tip: get yourself out there! Use social media to raise awareness about your blog. Create subscription lists so that interested readers can be notified every time a new post goes up. Try new things to get people talking about and sharing your blog.

3. Partner Up
You’re not the only blogger out there, and chances are other people are looking for help expanding their audience, too. Find a friend (or several; the more the merrier!) and make a pact – link to each other’s blogs in posts and promote them in social media to gain more visibility.

4. Be a Model Guest
You can even take your partnership one step further and be a featured guest blogger on other websites. It’ll get you more exposure and improve your relationship with other blog owners all at once!

5. Stay Focused
Don’t try to do too much; keep your content streamlined. Once you know what attracts the audience you want, focus your attention there. Writing about everything under the sun might seem like a good way to appeal to more readers, but it’ll probably just end up confusing them – plus, there’s a pretty good chance that you’re not an expert on everything in existence. Have a purpose, have an area of expertise, and stick to it.

6. Listen Carefully
You’re not writing in a vacuum, so it’s always a good idea to keep an ear open. Knowing what’s going on with your audience helps you cater to their interests. Maybe that means answering direct questions, or maybe it just means keeping up with the trending topics. Either way, it’s important that you notice what’s going on around you.

Writing a blog is a fantastic marketing method for any business. Blogs help you earn potential customers' trust – but only if your customers can find it. So, if you’ve started a business blog, don’t be content with talking to yourself! Help yourself build a bigger and better blog audience, starting with these 6 key tips.
